Nice Old Dears Tried to "Witness" to me Today

an older man and wife - ray and mary - got chatting to me today.

they were tourists admiring local wildlife.

i gave them a few tips on where to go to see some interesting things and it wasn't long before they were telling me about how awful the world is "nowadays" and paradise yadda yadda.

Cofty - you probably got them at the best time - holidaying and relaxed - a window that will probably seal shut for the remainder of their years. The only thing you left out was the money grab. Haha. I'm only commenting so I can reinforce the line of questioning at a later date. You're awesome.

Honestly though, I was so sure you met my grandmother Margaret who never shuts up. Got so animated trying to insert herself over the conversation that she slid off the couch like an egg in a pan! Promptly resumed position and never faltered in the sentence.

Cognitive Dissonance

the cognitive dissonance amongst jws has never been more obvious to me then what i just experience in the last 5 min.

long story short i had a phone conversation w/my mom about some things and i mentioned to her to look up what has been going on with their beloved organization in australia.

brother geoffrey jackson of the holy governing body was caught lying numerous times about several subjects including disassociations & shunning.

@LexIsFree did you 'reveal' who GJ was or did you stay quiet to spare your mother embarrassment? If you 'revealed' who GJ was, what was your mother's response? As my parents friends used the defense that the video had been doctored and while it looked like GJ it was cleverly edited and voice overed to discredit GJ and the org. So it wasn't in their opinion actually GJ.

The sincerity of James' disgust in the money grab was really good to hear. I must confess that I thought the May 2015 broadcast was apostate mockery it was so tv evangelist yet I was viewing it on JW.ORG. I was in disbelief. It is reassuring to know awake elders who stay in are using their position to help shepherd the flock in ernest.

Life after the witnesses, friends, faith etc

hi everyone, this is my first post so go easy on me :) i have been a witness all of my life (i'm 37) and truly believed it until 3 years ago.

my husband and i had become spiritually weak and over time i began to question more and more until i came to the conclusion that the witnesses were not the true religion but just one of many religions and that if god is there then there are many paths to get to him.

anyway, i've battled with keeping going as my husband still believed and i didn't want to be in a divided household as we have a young daughter and thought it would be very confusing for her (and us).

I made many friends at university through my degree, found I was always interested and lifted by intellectual conversation. Not doom and gloom other than eating 2 minute noodles day in and out. We were all striving for a similar goal so it was a positively motivating experience. I never missed my witness friends, some of whom disowned me before I officially left. Your sincerity will be very noticeable to others like you. Weed em out, pick and choose.
